I did this for an experiment and the egg in water grew a little, the one in corn syrup grew a little more, and the one in vinegar grew really big. Could you please explain why-I expected the one in water would grow the most because it diffuses more easily than other substances and I thought the egg would benefit from water uptake more than the uptake of vinegar or corn syrup.
Thanks Slight Smile

I'm not sure if this is right, but I thought the egg in vinegar might have grown the most because it is so acidic and it damaged the egg shell, enabling it to diffuse into the egg more easily because the egg shell wasn't keeping it out. I think the corn syrup diffused by facilitated diffusion and I discovered that this is a faster process than simple diffusion and osmosis which would explain why the egg in corn syrup grew more than the egg in water. Again, I'm not sure if any of this is right but it makes sense to me!
