What is a permissive hormone effect? Provide an example, explaining what would result if the permissive hormone was absent.

A permissive hormone effect is the dependence of one hormone on the presence of another in order to fully exert its effects. An example is that cortisol is required for full glucagon effect. Without cortisol, glucagon cannot adequately perform its role in glucose regulation, and death results.
